MASAO YAMAMOTO: Saru

Saru ("monkey" in Japanese) brings together the photographic haiku-like images of Masao Yamamoto, a major figure in contemporary Japanese photography. His work, held in leading international museums, is highly sought after by collectors around the world.

In this series, which he has pursued for more than twenty years, the artist observes the monkeys of Jigokudani Monkey Park each winter, set against snowy landscapes where they play, form bonds of affection, and bathe in natural hot springs. His images capture a fragile, contemplative world.
